Mumbai: ‘Gaylestorm’ rocked Mumbai as Chris Gayle scored an unbeaten 82 runs off 59 balls to make it a one-sided affair for Royal Challengers Bangalore as they beat Mumbai Indians by nine wickets in an IPL encounter at Wankhade Stadium on Wednesday. Though not disappointed by the defeat, MI skipper Harbhajan Singh said that had they taken Gayle’s catch earlier in the innings, the result could have been different.
“We're not disappointed. We have four games left. It was a good toss to win for Bangalore. I think we were 15-20 runs short. But had we not dropped Gayle, we don't know what would have happened. We are a way better side than this,” said Harbhajan.
Gayle was dropped when he was on 21 by Dwayne Smith off the bowling of R P Singh and the RCB opener went on to score an unbeaten 82.
Meanwhile stand-in captain Virat Kohli was ecstatic on beating Mumbai in their den. “To beat them at home is a good feeling for us. I wasn't feeling too great when I was batting in the previous matches but my team-mates backed me."
Said Kohli.
Man-of-the-Match Chris Gayle, who got the Orange Cap in process, said “We knew we had to see off Malinga. We were expecting two overs up front from him but he bowled three. We won and it was a good team effort today,” said Gayle, adding in lighter vein that he is in the process of making a room for the trophies he has been getting.
