Kohli praises AB’s knock, Sangakarra blames his bowlers for defeat

Bangalore: A blitzkrieg (47 off 17 balls) by AB de Villeirs towards the end saw Royal Challengers Bangalore score 72 runs in the final 3.5 overs and chase a daunting target of 182 runs with seven balls to spare against Deccan Chargers in an IPL encounter at Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Sunday. In all praise for the South African, stand-in-captain Virat Kohli described it as one of the best finishes he had seen.

Hoping to make it to the play-offs after this win, Kohli said that with AB around, anything was possible. “They bowled really well in the middle. But we wanted a win desperately and when you have AB on the crease, anything is possible. That's one of the best finishes I have seen. Hopefully we can continue this winning momentum and make it to the play-offs," Virat said after the match.

De Villiers who went after his fellow South African Dale Steyn, hitting two sixes and as many fours, said Steyn was a fantastic bowler and going after him does not happen everyday. "We needed that win. The commentators spoke about our charity initiative back home. That is what motivated me tonight. I was actually quite scared facing Steyn. I know him pretty well. It does not happen every day," said de Villiers.

Meanwhile Deccan Chargers skipper Kumar Sangakkara blamed his bowlers for failing to defend a daunting target. "We had good score on board to defend. We needed to bowl good balls and make it difficult for AB, who batted unbelievably well. All you can do is trust your bowlers to do the work for you. Dale has had a great tournament, unfortunately he had a bad over today,” he said.
