Steven Smith's Superman act stuns Eden Gardens

Kolkata: Pune Warriors India all-rounder Steven Smith stunned the packed Eden Gardens with his Superman act while fielding in the boundary against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here Saturday.

Smith almost gave Pune Warriors their third breakthrough in the fourth ball of the 15th over off left-arm spinner Murali Kartik. The young Australian make a full length dive to take a brilliant catch off Yusuf Pathan, when he was on three, on the boundary but realising that he was going over the boundary, flung the ball back in what surely saved four runs for the Pune Warriors.

Yusuf, however, failed to make the most of the opportunity and in his attempt to hit out Bhuvaneshwar Kumar found Smith taking a safe catch at long-on.

Smith's another brilliant effort on the boundary went in vain in the 18th over as he tried to pluck it right at the edge of the fence but Debabrata Das's shot just managed to cross the boundary for a six.

Smith later revealed that he was disappointed having dropped Pathan on the first chance as he had set some high standards for himself on the field.

"I was lucky enough to pull it back on the first occasion. I practice that stuff all the time and I was pretty disappointed when I dropped it. I had set some high standards for myself on the field," said Smith during the innings break.

Smith said he was fielding at the boundary to be in the game all the time.

"I was in the game. I was trying to get in the hot spots as much as possible," he said. (IANS)
