Chennai: It was a good gesture on part of skipper Gautam Gambhir who gave away his man-of-the-match award to young Debabrata Das for his four-ball 11 runs, citing that finishing the game was more important than giving a good start.
Das had finished the game in style by smashing R Ashwin over midwicket for four. With 16 needed off 12, the Knight Riders were still in control of the match but with the fall of Gambir and Yusuf Pathan did cause some scare in the visitors' camp. However, Das played a cameo to steer his team to its sixth win in IPL-5.
“Das is the man-of-the-match for this game. It’s not just about how you start, but more about how you finish the game. And Das did just that. He is a star in the making. A bright young talent with great future,” said the skipper encouraging the youngster.
Das on the hand thanked his captain saying that he has fortunate to have the support of Gambhir and other senior players of the team. “I am quite confident about the way I am going. Hope to contribute in the matches to come,” said a shy Das.
Gambhir also praised Chennai Super Kings for fighting till the end. “Chennai fought well. All credit to them. They were defending a small total but made a game out of it,” said Gambhir, adding that they need to play to their potential as there are still a lot games to go.
Meanwhile Chennai skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said that the wicket wasn’t letting them play big strokes. “We like playing big strokes but this wicket is not letting us play big strokes. It’s not a bad wicket but then it does not suit us,” said Dhoni, adding that it’s important for them to take early wickets and if that does not happen, it will a problem.
