Kolkata: Gautam Gambhir played a scintillating knock of 93 runs which played a crucial role in Kolkata Knight Riders beat Royal Challengers Bangalore convincingly by 47 run in an IPL encounter at Eden Gardens on Saturday. However, the skipper shunned from taking the credit and termed it to be a collective team effort.
Gambhir himself scored a blistering 93 to be man-of-the-match but said everyone played a part in team's win.
"It was a day when everything went right for us. Jacques Kallis and McCullum batted was superbly and later our bowlers did the rest of the job," said Gambhir, adding that it was a good wicket to bat on.
"If batting first gets you 190, it just shows how good the wicket was. So the credit should go to the entire team. They played really well," said the skipper who was also adjudged the man-of-the-match.
Meanwhile RCB skipper Daniel Vettori blamed their loss to the dropped catches of Gautam Gambhir. “We dropped Gambhir thrice and that cost us dearly. Gambhir played superbly and hats off to him. We now play at home and we have two vital games lined up. We will want to get back into winning groove," he said.
Meanwhile RCB batsman Chris Gayle said that all credit should be given to KKR batsman, especially Gautam Gambhir for posting such an imposing target on a slow wicket like this.
"On this wicket 190 was an imposing target. Eden Garden wicket is slow and low and credit goes to their batsmen especially Gambhir for scoring the total they did," Gayle said after the match.
