Mirpur: The sub-continent minnows Bangladesh will play the biggest match of their cricketing history when they will take on Pakistan in the final of the ongoing Asia Cup. Bangladesh was once a part of Pakistan but will try to do whatever it takes to beat the country from which it originated.
The Bangladesh cricket team is on a verge of making history because if they will win today’s match than it will be their biggest achievement from the day they started playing cricket.
For the first time one can say that Bangladesh has been the best team in the tournament, this time they are not playing against Zimbabwe, Kenya or a second-string West Indies side, this time they are playing the cricketing giants in the form of India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
The hosts did very well in their first match against Pakistan and were very close to winning, in the next two matches the Bangladeshis defeated the two team that featured in the World Cup final only a year ago. Both the wins were very convincing as the home team chased down the target against their fancied opponent’s with ease.
It is not that Bangladesh has not won matches in the past, they defeated India in the 2007 world cup, they outplayed Australia in Australia, but these were the one-off victories that the Bangladeshis are famous for. Other teams always knew that the Bangladeshis have it in themselves to pull up a surprise but they never expected them to be consistent.
Asia Cup has changed it all as the hosts have been the most consistent team in the tournament. Every player in this team looks confident and knows his role in the team. The way they celebrated after their victories against India and Sri Lanka showed how much it means to them.
Bangladesh will know that Pakistan will walk into the finals as clear favorites. The Pakistanis have some world class players and if they will come good than the chances of them winning the title after 12 years will be good.
This should not affect the Tiger’s charge as they looked inspired and are not letting the opponent’s dominate them. They young players from this small country are rising to the occasion. Everyone from their captain to their star all-rounder Shakib-Al-Hasan and attacking opener Tamim Iqbal are looking focused to pull up one last performance which will put their teams name in the history books for ever.
