Asia Cup: India banking on Sri Lankan win

Mirpur: India’s hopes of qualifying for the finals depend on the way how Sri Lanka performs when they will take on Bangladesh in the last league match of the ongoing Asia Cup. India will be hooting for Sri Lanka as the win for them will take India to the finals. Bangladesh is on four points and India is on 8. If Bangladesh wins today they will be tied with India in terms of points. And because Bangladesh defeated India in the league match they will go into the finals to face Pakistan.

Bangladesh will be upbeat about their chances after their superb run-chase against India; Sri Lanka on the other hand is out of the Asia Cup and will like to register a win to add some points to their account before leaving Bangladesh. Pakistan is the only team which is sitting pretty as they have qualified for the finals.

Bangladesh has had a good tournament till now, they were very close to winning their first match against Pakistan but their middle-order collapse cost them the match. They improved on that in their next match as they showed tremendous skills to achieve a stiff target set by India and in the process spoiled India’s party.

Sri Lanka has not been playing the type of cricket expected from them, after their outstanding performance Down Under; they walked into the tournament as the favorites. The Lankan batsmen have failed to capitalize on the starts that they got that resulted in them losing their matches against India and Pakistan.

If Bangladesh have t win today, their key players Tamim Iqbal and Shakib-Al-Hasan will have to perform. The Lankans will again be banking on the trio of Dilshan, Jayawardene and Sangakkara.
