New Delhi: Rahul Dravid deeply referred as the ‘wall’ is a great example of a “modest man, making it big”, Vijeeta, the wife always kept a low-profile, seldom have we heard about her, but like most real life couples, she stood beside Dravid and played his support system.
In her tribute column for ESPNcricinfo, Vijeeta mentioned the fact that she is his wife and not any fan and hence she would like to give the readers an insight about how the game has shaped his life.
The support system, Vijeeta mentioned that just after they got married, Dravid had told her that he would want to play for another three to four years till he calls ‘it quits’. However he went on playing for almost the double tenure.
Vijeeta also wrote at length about how Rahul prepared for his match and how Cricket has been the centre of Rahul's world and his approach to every season and series has been consistent in all the time that they have been married.
Vijeeta further revealed that on match days, Rahul wanted his space and his silence. He didn't like being rushed, not for the bus, not to the crease, much like what we see in reality.
Interestingly, she also disclosed the superstitious side of Rahul, Like all players, Rahul has his own set of it. He doesn’t really like trying a new bat out for a series, and puts his right thigh pad on first. Last year before the Lord's Test, he made sure to sit in the same space Tillakaratne Dilshan had occupied in the visitors' dressing room when he scored nearly a double-hundred earlier in the season. Rahul scored his first hundred at Lord's in that game.
No cricket fan has ever seen a serene man like Dravid lose his cool, but Vijeeta said that though only dropping catches upseted him, he once got angry because the team lost badly.
The modest wife mentioned that Cricket is a game that made Dravid what he is today, it changed his life for the best.
Now after Dravid has declared his stance, vijeeta believes that he's in a good zone and when he is in his routine, she will have to create one at home for him as well.
