Sehwag clears the air about his omission from the Asia Cup Side

New Delhi: Speculation as to whether the star Indian opener Virender Sehwag was rested in literal terms or dropped from the Asia Cup side has been cleared by the star batsman himself.

Sehwag admitted that it was he who asked the board to rest him. "I have back spasms. I need some rest. I have never kept my team management in the dark as far as fitness is concerned. "My injury is open for everyone to see. I have never hidden my injury before, or fitness problems. Even my shoulder operation was planned after consulting the then coach Gary Kirsten and skipper MS Dhoni."   " Sehwag told Mid-Day. Earlier a report by India’s physiotherapist Evan Speechly before the selection committee met to choose the team stated that Sehwag did require some rest.

Dhoni and coach Duncan Fletcher also told the selectors that Sehwag was seeking rest. It was also learnt that Srikkanth called up Sehwag seeking for an update and it was indeed Sehwag who asked for a rest but would have no problem playing in the four nations Asia Cup if the selectors insisted.

The selectors also rested Zaheer Khan and Umesh Yadav. Srikkhanth said that no one has been dropped and all the players missing have been rested.
