Hockey pitch to wear new blue colour for London Olympics

New Delhi: The FIH is set to change the traditional green turf of hockey pitch into new blue colour during the London Olympics. The hockey pitch at London's Riverbank Arena will be blue in colour, which will provide high levels of contrast with the yellow ball. The outer boundary of the playfield has been coloured pink.

The change is being made to make it look more attractive and television-friendly while the balls will be yellow in colour. This is for the first time that the turf turns blue with yellow colour ball, while the athletics' turf has turned red while some of the tennis courts have changed their colour to blue in place of green due to the demands of television.
