Malacca: Malaysia defeated India 0-2 in the semi-final of the ongoing 7th Junior Men’s Asia Cup Hockey Tournament played at the MBM Hockey Stadium in Malacca, Malaysia today.
India played attacking hockey and made some good moves in the first half of the match but was denied any goal by the host Malaysia. At the same time Malaysian forward line tried to attack and build some pressure in the first half but the Indian defenders successfully thwarted all the moves of opponents.
Malaysia took 1-0 lead in the 40th minute with Faisal Saari converting a penalty corner.
Seeking an equalizer Indian skipper Akashdeep Singh gained control in the midfield and set up forwards with penetrative passes, but failed to capitalize it.
In the 65th minute Malaysian forward Mohd Syamim Mohd Yusof scored the second goal for Malaysia to send his team into Sunday’s final.
The Indians attacked on the opponent side till the last minute, tightening the midfield but unluckily lost this game.
India will now play the 3rd and 4th place play-off on Sunday.
