Mumbai: Indian hockey men’s team that qualified for the London Olympics got felicitated by its official sponsor, Sahara India Pariwar, in Lucknow on Wednesday.

A cash award of Rs1.16 crore was presented to the team and its support staff at the ceremony by Subrata Roy, chairman, Sahara India Pariwar.

For the individual brilliance in the FIH Olympic qualifiers held in Delhi, Sardar Singh and Sandeep Singh were awarded Rs11 lakh each while the rest of the team members and the main coach were given Rs5 lakh each.

Narendra Batra, secretary general, Hockey India mentioned that this would encourage the sportsmen and the support staff to live up to the expectations of the entire nation and would inspire them to continue playing with the same commitment and zeal that they had displayed during the FIH Olympic qualifiers.
