New Delhi: American Ben Fox will be eager to translate his recent run of good form into a first Asian Tour victory at the Panasonic Open India at the Delhi Golf Club later this month.
The slightly built Fox, ranked 13th on the Order of Merit, has not missed a single cut at the Delhi Golf Club since joining the Asian Tour in 2010 and will be eyeing to continue his solid run at the US$300,000 Panasonic Open India held from March 29 to April 1.
He will contend with a strong line-up of Asian Tour stars including Chawalit Plaphol of Thailand, Siddikur of Bangladesh, Jason Knutzon of the United States and title holder Anirban Lahiri of India.
Since 2010, Fox have won over US$120,000 on the established Asian Tour, highlighted by four top-10s, including three successive good finishes this year.
With extra hours put into the gym in pre-season, Fox is determined to finally land his first Asian Tour victory at the Panasonic Open India, which is sanctioned by the Asian Tour and PGTI.
“It was a very productive month of January. I tried to get a little bit stronger in the gym and it is showing because I’m hitting it 10 or 15 yards further this year,” said the 24-year-old.
“Last year was slightly better compared to my rookie season but it was definitely not what my expectations were. I made too many mistakes last year and if I can minimize those and do a better job with a scoring then it could be a very different year,” added Fox.
The fabled Delhi Golf Club is known for its tree-lined fairways and historical monuments but Fox will rely on his consistent putting where he has averaged 28.5% of putts per round in the last three Asian Tour events.
The top three players at the Panasonic Open India will also be invited to play in the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open, scheduled from September 20 to 23 at the Higashi Hirono Golf Club in Hyogo, Japan.
Panasonic, the worldwide leader of electronic product manufacturers, has committed to the title sponsorship in India as an extension of the brand’s involvement with professional golf in Asia. The Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open in Japan is jointly sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour.
