Ahmedabad: Sri Lankan professional Anura Rohana gave himself a good fillip on the eve of the Gujarat Kensville Challenge 2012 at the Kensville Golf and Country Club on Wednesday.
Rohana, who plays on the Indian and Asian Tours, carried his team to a comprehensive victory in the Pro-Am. In the Pro-Am, which precedes the main tournament beginning on Thursday, Rohana and his teammates Rohit Patel, Prem Kapoor and Haresh Parikh aggregated 52 points and beat the second placed team led by Mukesh Kumar by four points.
Mukesh’s teammates were Alpesh Parikh, Anand Dave and Bhavesh Dave. Their team had a total of 56 points.
Finishing third in the Pro-Am was the led by Anthony Snobeck, whose teammates were Dr Paras Doshi, Brig AK Singh and Vishal Patel with 57 points and they won a countback against teams led by professionals Vinod Kumar and Ashok Kumar. Vinod’s teammates were Tushar Shah, Parag Kamdar and Dr Yogendra Jhala and Ashok’s teammates were Manish Choksi, Shaleen Sharma and Pranav Shah.
Shiv Kapur’s team comprising Rajan Ghai, Sameer Sinha and Jigish Shah finished seventh with 58 points.
American Peter Uihlein, who makes his professional debut on Thursday had a great outing and played about seven-under and got himself ready for the main event.
There were 24 teams in all which took part in the Pro-Am, which traditionally is held a day before the main event.
