Pune: After setting up the early pace on day one, Pune Devils Gang missed the top spot by 13 shots as Pune Pirates became the leader among 21 gangs while cashing on home advantage on the second day of infantry round in Puravankara Touché Golf League West Zone at Poona Golf Club today. Pune Pirates Gang scored a blazing round of 137-over for the total of 847 to become the number one gang today while yesterday’s leading gang has slipped to the second position with the score of 150-over for the total of 860. Sahayadri Hustlers ended the first infantry round in the third place with 151-over 861.

There were already many hopes from one of the local favourites Gang named Pune Pirates and fortunately the course conditions were also in favour for them as they could come up with some really good birdies. Farrokh Mody of Pune Pirates Gang who also plays regularly on the Indian Golf Union’s Amateur golf circuit, played a very disappointing round but since it’s a team championship, his scores also counted in top-10. Mody said, “It’s pretty sad that being a regular golfer on this course, I could only hit 16-over 87 for the day. Still, I am glad that my score could be of some help to my gang and I am looking forward to the second infantry round where I am definitely going to play up to my gang’s expectations.”

Kedar Bondre, captain of the runners-up Gang said, “I knew that if we loose the first position, we will only loose it from Pune Pirates Gang because they are as strong as we are. Since we are second after this round, I want to take my gang to Bombay Presidency Golf Club for a practice round in advance so that we can beat the top gang and maintain our image of one of the best gangs of Pune not just in the second infantry round but also in the Cavalry round. The ultimate aim of our gang is to be in contention for the grand finale in Sri Lanka.”

All 21 gangs will be participating once again in the second infantry round in Mumbai later this month out of which only four gangs will qualify for the Cavalry round.
