Vani leads the field; Local girl Neha Tripathi tied third

Vani-Kapoor-Indian-Open-26Kolkata: Vani Kapoor on Thursday showcased some excellent golf to prove why is she aptly called the, ‘Queen of Comebacks’. The Delhi youngster played a very cautious and calculated game today to lead the field at the end of the second round of the Hero – RCGC Women’s Pro Golf Championship. Vani finished with a total of 145 to sit atop the leader board, enjoying a single stroke lead on overnight leader Kiran Matharu.

Following Vani and Kiran are local girl Neha Tripathi and rookie Amandeep Drall at tied third place, with identical totals of 149 after 36 holes. The INR 5,00,000 event will culminate tomorrow at the par 72 historic Royal Calcutta Golf Club.

Vani played a cautious second round after starting the day at the second position. Her second round score of an even par 72 consisted of two bogeys on the 3rd and 10th holes and an equal number of birdies on the 4th and 6thholes. With the total of 145 after 36 holes, Vani will now commence the final round at the top of the leaderboard one stroke ahead of Kiran Matharu. Kiran carded a total of 146 after 36 holes. Her round today included four bogeys on the 1st, 3rd, 12th and 18th holes along with a couple of birdies on the 13th and 17th holes.

Local girl Neha Tripathi finished at the tied third position with rookie Amandeep Drall, with identical totals of 149 after 36 holes. Neha’s second round of one over 73 consisted of five bogeys on the 3rd, 5th, 6, 7th and 11thholes along with four birdies on the 1st, 4th, 8th and 15th holes. Rookie Amandeep Drall’s birdie-less round of three over 75 consisted of three bogeys on the 6th, 7th and 18th holes.

Hero MotoCorp sponsored Bengaluru golfer Sharmila Nicollet finished the second round at 5th position with a total of 151. She carded 4 bogeys on the 3rd, 4th, 11th and 14th holes, along with a double bogey on the 6thhole. Her otherwise forgettable round consisted of only two birdies on the 9th and 16th holes.

Delhi Golfers Ankita Tiwana and Gauri Monga finished the day with scores of 4 over 76 and 5 over 77 respectively. They are currently placed at the 6th and 7th position. Kolkata Golfer Smriti Mehra finished the second round with a total of 156 and is currently placed 8th in the table.
