Pahalgam: Delhi youngster Vani Kapoor has had a dream run in the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour (HWPGT) 2014 so far with 3 victories and 2 runners up finishes in 5 events. Vani who is the firm favourite for the sixth leg of the HWPGT will look forward to consolidate her position at the top of the Hero Order of Merit 2014. The sixth leg of the HWPGT is being played at the picturesque Lidder Valley Golf Course in Pahalgam from the 17th -20thJune.
The INR 7,00,000 event will see the current leader of the Hero Order of Merit face stiff competition from veteran golfer Smriti Mehra. Smriti is currently second on the Order of Merit list with one victory and one runner up position and will definitely aim to reduce the gap between Vani and herself in the Order of Merit.
Hero MotoCorp Sponsored Sharmila Nicollet will be missing the sixth leg as she is due to play in the Allianz Ladies Slovak Open on the Ladies European Tour from the 19th -22nd of this month. Sharmila is currently the youngest Indian to secure an LET card and the only Indian to retain her card for the second consecutive year.
The field for the sixth leg will consist of 12 professional and 2 amateur golfers fighting it out for the top honours on the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2014. Some of the players to watch out for would be Pune golfer Shweta Galande, Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma, Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi and Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana.
At an altitude of over 7250 feet with snow-capped hills in the background, the beautiful Lidder Valley Golf Course is ready to test the mental skills and physical fitness of the girls in the sixth leg. The Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2014 comprises a total of fifteen legs spanning across key locations in India.
