New Delhi: Bangalore’s Viraj Madappa became the overall leader with a superb two-under 70 that also gave him the lead in the Category B after the third round in the USHA IGU Juniors, the season’s opening junior golf tournament at the Army Golf Club (AEPTA).
Viraj, one of the most promising youngsters in the country, shot one-under 35 on either side of the turn, while overnight overall and category B leader, Mohan Sardar slipped with a round of 81 on third day.
Viraj is now one-over 217 for three days, while Manu Gandas (72) is 218 and tied second with Prakhar Asawa (73). Abhishek Kuhar (72) was fourth at 219, while Shubhankar Sharma (69) had the best round of the day and it helped him move to overall fifth. Delhi’s Honey Baisoya (71) was sixth at 223.
Manu Gandas leads Category A at 218 with Abhishek Kuhar second at 219, while Viraj Madappa leads Category B with 217 and Prakhar Asawa was second in the same category with 218.
Around 96 golfers started off in Category A (Age group 15-17) and Category B (Age group 13-14). The tournament is being played in stroke play format and there will be an overall winner declared apart from the winners in different A and B categories.
The USHA IGU Delhi junior is one of the events to be sponsored by USHA as part of their commitment to promote junior amateur golf in the country.
