Hope London would be third time lucky for me: Gagan Narang

New Delhi: He is a multiple Commonwealth Games gold medallist and holder of numerous world records, but an Olympic medal is what has eluded Gagan Narang so far, and the ace Indian marksman is hopeful of breaking the jinx in his third shot at the quadrennial event in London next year.

Gagan, who is the first Indian to qualify for the 2012 Games, will participate in three events in London -- 10m Air Rifle, 50m Rifle Prone and 50m Rifle 3 Position -- and the affable Hyderabad-based shooter felt this will maximise his chances of realising his Olympic dream.

"It (three events) gives me more chances to win medals and I feel I am a decent multi-event shooter. I hope it would be third time lucky for me," he said.

"My main event is 10m air rifle where only a little fine-tuning is required, but I need to work on 3 position, especially the kneeling position. I am working on it and hopefully it will get solved (before the Olympics)," Gagan said during a programme on Thursday, where the Indian Olympic Association and digital technology leader, Samsung India Electronics signed a MoU keeping in mind the 2012 Games.

As per the MoU, Samsung has become the Olympic partner and official sponsor of the Indian contingent for next year's Games.

During the function, Samsung also announced the launch of its Olympic Ratna Program, whereby it is providing scholarship support to six top Indian athletes -- shooters Abhinav Bindra, Gagan and Ronjan Sodhi; boxers Vikas Krishan and L Devendro Singh and archer Deepika Kumari -- all of whom have already booked their London tickets.
