ST JOHN'S (ANTIGUA): The year-long impasse between the BCCI and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) ended on Thursday as the Indian cricket board has decided to resume bilateral cricketing ties with an away tour of the Caribbean islands in mid-2016, says a report in Pune Mirror.
India are scheduled to play four Test matches in the Caribbean in July-August, 2016.
A media release issued by the West Indies Cricket Board states: "WICB president, Dave Cameron today confirmed that following discussions with BCCI president Shashank Manohar, that the West Indies will host India in the Caribbean in 2016. This agreement is subject to the WICB and the Players Association giving a joint commitment to complete, at a later date, the tour which prematurely ended in October 2014. Cricket remained the centrepiece of our discussion and we are happy to be at this juncture," added Cameron.
Meanwhile, according to a report in The Indian New Express though BCCI has not officially commented on the matter, sources in the board indeed confirmed that the suspension is set to be revoked. “WICB has been is constant touch with Manohar and Thakur, and they have already apologised for what happened in 2014. Though BCCI incurred loss, we need to be realistic, as well, about getting compensation. We also suggested the WICB pay a fraction of their annual earnings from the ICC directly to BCCI.
“But even if we do so, it would take at last five-six years for them to make up. So instead, when they floated the idea of touring India sometime in 2017, we thought it would be the best way to solve this impasse,” an official t told The New Indian Express.
