IPL should be banned for few years to bring the Indian cricket on the right track: Dalmiya

Former chief of BCCI and ICC, Jagmohan Dalmiya, has demanded that IPL should be banned for few years to bring the Indian Cricket on the right track. He believes that wiping out the anti-social elements such as spot-fixing and betting from the game should be of paramount importance and for that to take place, strict actions should have been taken up till now.

According to the reports in DNA, Dalmiya was quoted saying, “All forms of 'sleaze' have to be removed from the sport. Whatever you need to clean cricket, you need to go ahead and if it (IPL) needs to be stopped for the time being, it has to be stopped."

He added, "After all, if we cannot judge if this is clean cricket or not, it is pity on our part. But players should make sure that they don’t fall for easy money which does more harm than good. It would be better if sports person focus on their dexterity rather than choosing an unethical path.”

He was quoted by Deccan Chronicle saying, "I have nothing to say to him (Srinivasan). I am not going into any unnecessary debate." Srinivasan was the big gun who ousted Dalmiya from BCCI when he was rated as one of the cricket’s strongest man.

In 2002, Srinivasan, then the president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, joined hands with Sharad Pawar, Shashank Manohar and Lalit Modi to form a strong opposition to usurp Dalmiya's throne.

However, over the past couple of weeks, N Srinivasan has come under the radar because of his son-in-law getting involved in matters of betting and may be of spot-fixing. One thing that’s looking quite sure is that BCCI Chief fortress has been breached quite badly after the scandals of spot-fixing and betting.
