Michale Clarke’s presence helped me a lot: Henriques

Moises Henriques, Australian all- rounder, has lived up to the expectation and contributed immensely with his handsome batting skills on the first day of the first test in Chennai. According to a report in Deccan Herald, Henriques said he should have been much more ruthless.

His presence in the middle with his captain Michael Clarke ensured that Australia get to a respectable total despite of losing five wickets in the first two sessions. Henriques made 68 off 132 balls and forged a good partnership of 151 runs with Clarke for the sixth wicket, at the M A Chidambaram Stadium.

“The way Michael plays spin is very different. He dances down the wicket and uses his feet very gracefully. He is one of the best batsmen against spin in our batting line-up. He gave me that piece of advice which helped me to be not to get nervous and to apply myself calmly. Tomorrow first hour is going to be very crucial and I hope Clarke scores a double tone to steer the side to a competitive score,” Henriques said.

According to a report in The Times Of India, it was a hard grind for the 26-year-old all-rounder, especially with six-wicket man Ravichandran Ashwin getting the ball to turn and bounce.

“I think Ashwin looks much better bowler when he gets that extra bounce from the wicket. It is quite hard to get out restricting his deliveries. He varies his pace very well with the consistent line and length which makes him unplayable at times. It is very hard to score off him,” Henriques said.

“The way pitch has been throwing clouds of dust is very surprising. It looks like pitch is going to play some tricks on the fourth and fifth days.”
