Yuvraj comeback in Tests is nothing short of a fairytale: Srikkanth

I have been witness to many comebacks, but none more stirring than the one scripted by Yuvraj Singh, wirtes Krishnamachari Srikkanth in his column in The Times Of India, adding that when my committee picked him for the T20 series against New Zealand and the World T20, many eyebrows were raised and I remember the media going to town questioning his fitness.

“They termed the selection an ‘emotional decision’.  However, we sought details on his fitness and only when we were totally convinced did we decide to pick him. Not only has Yuvraj proved everyone wrong, but has clearly exceeded expectations. Mere words cannot do justice to the will power and determination he has shown,” says Srikkanth, adding that the best launch pad for Yuvraj had to be the T20 format, and once he got going in the World T20, it was only a matter of time before he forced his way back in all formats.

“I have to be honest to agree that his Test comeback has been nothing short of a fairytale. I expected Yuvraj to gradually make his way back after playing in a few ODIs, but he compelled his case with a double hundred in the Duleep Trophy,” writes the former chief selector.

Meanwhile according to media reports India opener Gautam Gambhir on Saturday flew back to Delhi before commencement of the fourth day's play in the first Test against England following the death of his grandmother.

Confirming the development, media manager Vinod Deshpande said that the opener took a flight to Delhi this morning after hearing the news of his grandmother's death. "I don't know when he will be back. It probably will depend on what happens today in the match," Deshpande said.

Reserve Ajinkya Rahane came as a substitute for Gambhir when play started at the Sardar Patel Stadium
