Anil Kumble appointed as ICC Cricket Committee chief, replaces Clive Lloyd

Legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble has been handed the top job by the International Cricket Committee for its Cricket Committee yesterday.

A report in The Hindu says that the former Indian skipper was appointed unanimously appointed as the chairman of Cricket Committee replacing West Indies great Clive Llyod.

“In Anil Kumble, we have a new chairman who has unquestioned experience not only as a player with India but also as an administrator with Karnataka State Cricket Association as well,” ICC President Alan Issac was quoted in the report.

“I am sure that he (Kumble) will carry on Clive’s good work and bring, like Andrew Strauss, contemporary thinking to the committee and both understand clearly the issues facing the modern game,” he added.

A report in The DNA says that former England skipper Strauss was unanimously nominated as Ian Bishop's replacement in the committee after the West Indian, representing former players, indicated that he was not seeking an extension to his term.

"I would like to thank Clive Lloyd for his chairmanship of the ICC Cricket Committee and to his tireless contribution to the game. The ICC Board were united in their admiration for his work as chairman. We also thank Ian Bishop for his contribution during his term as well," Issac said.

The report mentions that according to sources, Kumble has been given a two year term.

Meanwhile a report in The Times of India writes that, senior Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official Rajiv Shukla welcomed Kumble’s appointment and said, "I think this is a very big responsibility. I think he is also capable of this. He will play a very important role. He will address all the problems. There is a need to bring change in world cricket, not only in Indian cricket."
