CLT20: Jayawardene replaces Sehwag as captain of Delhi Daredevils

Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene replaced Virender Sehwag as the captain of Delhi Daredevils for Champions League T20 to be played in South Africa next month, says a report in The Indian Express.

"After leading Delhi Daredevils in four of the five IPL editions, Virender Sehwag has sought to step down from the skipper's post. The new captain will be Mahela Jayawardene, who will lead the team in next month's Champions League T20," the Delhi Daredevils said on their official website.

TA Sekar, who is the team’s mentor said that Sehwag stepped down as he wanted to focus solely on his batting.

"Viru told us a few months ago that he wanted to bat freely and suggested that we make Mahela the captain," Sekar said.

Meanwhile, The Times of India reports that Delhi Daredevils have been drawn in Group A with Kolkata Knight Riders, Perth Scorchers, Titans and a qualifier.

Last year’s finalists Chennai Super Kings is in group B along with Mumbai Indians, Sydney Sixers, Highveld Lions and a qualifier.
