In a glittering award ceremony at the KSBA hall cricketer Rahul Dravid and shuttler Ashwini Ponnappa were declared Best Sportspersons at the Sports Writers’ Association of Bangalore’s (SWAB), says a report in The Hindu.
Golfer S. Chikkarangappa and cueist Varsha Sanjeev were declared the Best Junior Sportspersons. The Team of the year award was given to Karnataka Senior swimming team, National swimming coach Pradeep Kumar got the Best Coach award.
Meanwhile, Deccan Herald reports that VVS Laxman presented Rahul Dravid the prestigious award. Dravid who recently retired from international cricket said, “It feels great to receive this award. I think this is going to be my last award as a player, and it will take a long time to get life-time award which Vishy has got today.”
Legendary Indian batsman GR Viswanath received the life-time achievement award. Present at the event were eminent sporting personalities including Anil Kumble, Pankaj Advani, and former sprinter Ashwini Nachappa.
