IOA sets up 3-member committee to resolve issues related to Indian hockey

The Indian Olympic Association has set up a three-member committee to resolve the issue of how best to run the affairs of hockey in the country, says a report in The Hindu, adding that the two warring bodies – Hockey India and the Indian Hockey Federation – have been asked to present their case before the committee on August 21.

The three-member committee, set up following directions from the International Hockey Federation last month, comprises the former Wrestling Federation of India president G.S. Mander, the Indian Weightlifting Federation president Birendra Prasad Baishya and the Handball Federation of India secretary-general S.M. Bali. The committee will submit its report on August 31.

According to a report in Mail Today, the committee was set up under the directive of International Hockey Federation (FIH). “They had some meetings and they are looking into the issue,” said IOA acting president VK Malhotra.

A hearing of views of both HI and IHF will be held on August 21 and the committee will submit its report by August 31.

Malhotra said there will be a review of performance of the Indian contingent. 'We will see what went wrong.'

The Indian men boxing contingent may have taken a back seat at the felicitation ceremony organized by Monnet & Ispat Energy Limited, kit sponsors of the boxing team. But, their performance in London has earned them words of praise, says a report in The Times Of India.

Speaking at the felicitation ceremony, Monnet's chairman & managing director Sandeep Jajodia said, "The margins with which they lost were very little and all those who watched their matches would agree with me that they deserve more than the scorecards."

"There was a controversy with the scoring system. A win is a win and a loss is a loss, but the way boxing has shaped up over the years," he added.

Jajodia handed over a cheque of Rs 11 lakhs to London bronze medalist MC Mary Kom and Rs 10 lakhs to the rest of the Boxing contingent.
