Tendulkar all set to return to test cricket, but selectors face Laxman dilemma

A report in the DNA says that Sachin Tendulkar is all set to return to the Test arena after a break of two months but all eyes will be on another veteran VVS Laxman's future when selectors pick the squad in Mumbai on Friday for the two-match series against New Zealand starting August 23.

The report also suggest that the selectors will also pick the final squad for the World Twenty20Championship in Sri Lanka in September and Yuvraj Singh, who is training at the NCA after recovering from a rare germ cell cancer, is in contention for a spot
.
"It will depend on the fitness certificate that he will get from the NCA," a selection committee source was quoted saying about Yuvraj.

"There are two schools of thought on Laxman. One is that we should groom a youngster before the series against England, while the other wants to give Laxman a chance to play at home," the source further added.

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coach Duncan Fletcher will be attending the meeting.

Meanwhile a report in The Hindustan Times writes that former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar has rated his Kris Srikkanth as the best opening partner he had and that he liberated him as a batsman.

"As my opening partner, Srikkanth somehow liberated me as a batsman. He used to encourage me to play the shots that I wouldn't otherwise offer. He had a positive influence on me," Gavaskar was quoted in the report.

He also spoke about IPL and said that that the tournament was good for the Game."Previously players could not think of cricket for livelihood, unless they had played at the national level but now they can," he further added.
