'Flying Sikh' Milkha Singh has lashed out at Suresh Kalmadi for his proposed trip to London Olympics. "Those who have been to jail for wrongdoing and brought disrepute to India during 2010 Commonwealth Games are now hell bent to malign country's name in London Olympics, says a report in The Times Of India.
"The government must do everything possible to stop them," the 82-year-old said on Saturday. Not just stopping at that the 'Flying Sikh' in his earthy wit compared Kalmadi's demand on sports minister Ajay Maken's resignation to an old saying "dekho, ulta chor kotwal ko dante".
Meanwhile according to a report in The Hindu, continuing his tirade against Suresh Kalmadi, Sports Minister Ajay Maken on Sunday said that the ‘tainted’ sports administrator should not attend the London Olympics and termed as “absurd” the demand for his resignation.
A day after Mr. Kalmadi hit out at the Sports Minister, accusing him of carrying out a vilification campaign, Mr. Maken said that the sacked CWG chief should desist from going to the Olympics and he had taken up the mater with the Indian Olympics Association (IOA).
“I have taken up the matter with the IOA. I have asked the IOA to speak to the IAAF (International Athletics Federation) and the IOC and explain them the matter. He (Kalmadi) will nor be part of any official delegation from India neither of the IOA nor of the government,” Mr. Maken told reporters here.
“I want to advise Mr. Kalmadi that he should not go to the Olympics unless he is cleared of all the charges,” he said.
According to a Hindustan Times report, Sports minister Ajay Maken has dismissed Suresh Kalmadi's demand that he step down for contempt of court for opposing the latter's trip to London during the Olympics as a council member of the international athletics federation. At a farewell function for the London-bound sportspersons on Sunday, Maken said Kalmadi "has no moral right to ask me about my resignation".
