Sacked CWG Organizing Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi, accused in a CWG-related corruption case, on Thursday sought a special CBI court's permission to attend the 2012 Olympics in London. In his plea, Kalmadi said he was required to attend meetings and conferences as he was a member of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Council and president of the Asian Athletics Association (AAA), says a report in The Times Of India.
Seeking permission to go to the UK for the Games from July 26 to August 13, his plea said, "Applicant (Kalmadi), in his capacity as a member of the IAAF Council and as president of Asian Athletics Association, is required to attend certain meetings, conferences and matters of the IAAF during the London 2012 Olympics from July 26 to August 13."
Meanwhile The Hindu reports that in his application to Special CBI Judge Talwant Singh, Kalmadi sought exemption from court appearance during July 26-August 13. It has been listed for hearing on Friday. The case is at the stage of arguments on framing of charges.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, facing corruption charges in connection with the Commonwealth Games, its former organising committee chief Suresh Kalmadi on Thursday moved court seeking permission to travel to London for the Olympics, in his capacity as a member of the International Association of Athletics Federation. His plea is listed for hearing on Friday. In April, the court had allowed Kalmadi to visit Kazakhstan for an Asian Athletics Association Council meeting.
