Leander Paes asking for a written assurance from me to play mixed doubles is demeaning for me: Sania Mirza

Sania Mirza is furious on the way she has been treated in the recent tennis fiasco and she has come out strongly against ace Indian tennis player Leander Paes and the All India Tennis Association (AITA) for treating her like a pawn. Sania who got a wild card entry last night is upset in the battle of two angry superstars of Indian tennis it is she who is used as a pawn, says a report in The Times of India.

Sania on her getting the wild card said that she is thrilled to represent India in the upcoming London Olympics. She said according to a report in TOI, “I am extremely grateful to the International Tennis Federation for the faith they have reposed in me by giving me a wild card entry that gives me a cherished opportunity to represent my country at the Olympics for the second time in my life.”

But, the way the team has been selected is what disappoints Sania. She according to a report in The Hindu said, ““While I feel honoured and privileged to have been chosen to partner Leander Paes, the manner and timing of the announcement wreaks (sic) of male chauvinism where a two-time Grand Slam champion, who has been India's number one women's tennis player for almost a decade in singles and doubles is offered in compensation to partner one of the feuding champions purely in order to lure him into accepting to play with a men's player he does not wish to play with!.”

She was particularly upset about the AITA has treated her and said that this kind of blatant humiliation of Indian womanhood needs to be condemned even if it comes from the highest controlling body of tennis in our country.

Sania Mirza also had a message for Leander Paes saying that his partner Vishnu Vardhan is an extremely talented player, says a report in The Hindustan Times. She said that she along with Vishnu won a silver medal in the 2010 Asian Games. She said that Vishnu if play with Paeshas it in him to go one step further this time.
