IPL: Kings XI open their account; deliver Pune Warriors their first defeat

Kings XI Punjab defeated Pune Warriors comfortably at Mohali by seven wickets with more than two overs to be bowled, reports The Hindu.

The Warriors who were put in to bat scored only 116 runs and were bowled out in the 19th over, Mithun Manhas was the top scorer for them with 31 runs against his name. Dimitri Mascarenhas  was the pick of the Punjab bowlers as he took five wickets, the first ever five wicket haul by a Kings XI bowler.

In reply, the Punjab team never had to drop a sweat as they easily surpassed the total set by their opponent. Aussie left-hander scored an unbeaten 64 to see his team through.


Kings XI with the win over the Pune Warriors has opened their account in this season of Indian Premier League. A report in The Times of India said that the home team was greeted into the stadium with tremendous cheer and that kicked off the things for Punjab in great style.

The luck also favored the home team as they won the toss on a juicy pitch and decided to bowl first. Punjab bowlers took the maximum use of a lively pitch and restricted the undefeated Pune team to a low total.

With luck finally on their side the Adam Gilchrist led side showed what they are capable of and looked like a force.


Dimitri Mascarenhas became the first bowler from Kings XI Punjab to get a five wicket haul, reports Hindustan Times. The slow medium bowler from England took the maximum advantage of the juice that was available on the pitch and bowled some great deliveries.

There was overnight rain which meant that the captain who will win the toss will bowl first, as it happened the home team finally saw some luck going their way as they sent in the Warriors to bat.

Mascarenhas who is used to bowling in these conditions showed why he is rated so highly back in England as he started swinging the ball with his first delivery. The ball that he bowled against Samuels which cleaned his stumps was a peach of a delivery
