Rio de Janeiro: Botafogo is reportedly within days of an announcement on its pursuit of former Dutch international midfielder Clarence Seedorf.
The 36-year-old's agent, Deborah Martin, is currently in Rio de Janeiro for talks with club president Mauricio Assumpcao, Xinhua reported.
Seedorf, who confirmed his exit from AC Milan last month, is understood to have been offered a $240,000 monthly salary by the Brazilian outfit.
Botafogo coach Oswaldo de Oliveira did not hide his enthusiasm at the prospect of signing the four-time Champions League winner Wednesday.
"Of course I know that we are trying to sign him, and if this transfer takes place, it will be a big marketing move and a big addition to the team as well," Oswaldo said.
"His quality is undeniable. But he will need to adapt as his season has just ended and he is 36 years old and he will play in an unfamiliar atmosphere. But his wife is Brazilian and he often comes on holiday, which is good. I think he will not have any issue controlling those problems," he said.
Seedorf, who is currently in Poland to commentate at the Euro 2012, last month revealed his intention to play for another "two or three years".
"I am going to pick the most challenging project, something that intrigues and stimulates me," he said. (IANS)
