Real Madrid wins La Liga title, Messi sets new record

Madrid: Real Madrid won 3-0 at Athletic Bilbao to win its 32nd Spanish league title and their first league championship since 2008. They have snatched the title from arch-rival who were the champions in the past three consecutive titles.

Real Madrid with a win has a seven point lead over Barcelona with only two games left. Gonzalo Higuain scored the opening goal for Madrid in the 16th minute, German player Mesut Oezil doubled the lead in the 20th minute. The last goal was stuck by Cristiano Ronaldo which took him to the total number of 58 goals.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi broke a 39-year European club record scoring a hat trick which took his goal tally to 68.

Messi broke the record of 67 goals by Gerd Mueller set for Bayern Munich in 1972-73.
