Madrid: Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he intended to remain as coach at the club for next season.
Speaking after his side's failure to reach the final of the Champions League after falling in a penalty shootout to Bayern Munich, Mourinho looked to end rumours that he was thinking of leaving Madrid at the end of the season to possibly sign for Chelsea or Manchester City.
"If the club and the players want to think that I can give anything more, and I think that I can, then I am going to continue," Mourinho was quoted as saying Wednesday night by Xinhua.
Madrid had taken a 2-0 lead thanks to two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, but an Arjen Robben penalty ensured the game went to a penalty shoot-out, where Ronaldo, Kaka and Sergio Ramos all missed for Madrid to ensure that Bayern qualify for the final.
"This is football, the players have been fantastic and have shown an incredible attitude, but we played against a great side who were virtually on holiday last weekend while we were forced to play the most important game of the season."
"It was a great game and in the end we are sad and they (Bayern) will be happy," said Mourinho. (IANS)
