West Ham eyes Olympic Stadium

London: English Championship side West Ham Friday submitted a new bid to move to the Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games.

The former English premier league outfit failed to reach a deal last year with London's Newham Council.

They were one of 16 parties to enter a government tender process, with bidders given until Friday to submit proposals, Xinhua reported.

'Hammers' vice-chairman Karren Brady said any move was conditional on the stadium being "fit for world-class football and feels like home to our deserving fans."

West Ham's ground, Upton Park currently has 35,000-capacity, however the Olympic Stadium can cater to 60,000 fans.

A decision on the successful bidder is expected in May, two months before the Games open 27 July.(IANS)
