Coritiba advance to second phase of Brazilian Cup

Rio de Janeiro: Coritba advanced to the second phase of the 2012 Brazilian Cup with a 2-0 win over Nacional.

Both of Coritiba's goals Thursday came from Anderson Aquino. His first goal came in the 18th minute and he scored again in the 90th minute. The team qualified for the next round with an aggregate score of 2-0.

Cortiba's next opponent in the Brazilian Cup will be Agremiacao Sportiva Arapiraquense (ASA)/AL, Xinhua reported.

The second phase of the competition will take place between April 4 and April 19. As in the first round, should the visiting team win the first leg match by two goals or more, they will eliminate their opponent and automatically advance to the third phase.

The winner of the 2012 Brazilian Cup automatically qualifies to play in the 2013 Libertadores Cup. The tournament is the shortest way for a Brazilian team to enter the continental competition. (IANS)
