Zambia to review medical system for football players

Lusaka (Zambia): Football authorities in Zambia said Thursday they will convene a meeting to review the current medical system for players following the collapse of Bolton Wanderers' Frabrice Muamba after suffering a cardiac arrest at the weekend.

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) communication officer Erick Mwanza said an emergency medical committee meeting will be convened ahead of the opening of the premier league this weekend, Xinhua reported.

He said there was need to review the medical situation in order to establish if clubs were capable of managing such a situation should it happen to a local player.

The 23-year-old Muamba collapsed during Saturday's English FA Cup quarterfinal game against Tottenham and was rushed to a London Chest Hospital where he remains hospitalized though he has now stabilized. (IANS)
