EPL: Tevez helps City beat Chelsea

 

Manchester: Carlos Tevez inspired Manchester City to come back from behind and beat Chelsea 2-1 in a crucial English Premier League matchup here at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. Tevez who came in as a 66th minute substitution for amidst jeering and boos from the home crowd played an instrumental role in helping his side score the winning goal and extend Man City’s winning streak at home to 20.

 

Chelsea was leading for most part of the match after Gary Cahill sent them ahead in the 60th minute of the match. Six minutes later, Robert Mancini sent in the Argentine Tevez after a six months and he quickly turned the pace on.

Match into the last 10 minutes it was looking as though City would crash to their first home defeat in 20 matches but a goal’s superbly taken penalty helped them in restoring the parity in the 85th minutes.

With team deadlocked at 1-1, the match was poised for an exciting finish and with minutes remaining Tevez after receiving a short pass from Samir Nasri returned it to him on the edge of the box for Nasri to score the winning goal.

It set the stage for a fascinating finale and, with five minutes remaining, Samir Nasri played a short ball to Tevez, who returned the pass on the edge of the area for Nasri to calmly convert the winning goal.

The victory now has city one point adrift from the league leaders and defending Champion Manchester United from same number of games.
