Rio de Janeiro: Football legend and current Brazilian prliamentarian Romario has bragged that he is still the best football player ever.
The scorer of more than 1,000 career goals pretentiously stated Saturday that while in his prime, he was definitely superior to the talent of Argentinean superstars Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi, Xinhua reported.
Romario reminded that he is among the dream-team list of players to have played with FC Barcelona, while Messi has yet to be inducted into the prestigious roster.
The dream team list, as divulged by Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, consists of Zubizarreta, Carlos Puyol, Ronald Koeman, Sergi Barjuan, Deco, Pep Guardiola, Michael Laudrup, Maradona, Johan Cruyff, Romario and Ronaldinho Gaucho.
In relation to Maradona, Romario admits that the Argentinean was better in terms of technique. However, when considering overall performance, Romario claims to be superior, adding that he played until he was 40-years-old.
Romario took the opportunity to complain about the career of his 19-year-old son, Romarinho who is currently a reserve player at Vasco da Gama. Unsatisfied with his son's lack of playing time, Romario is hopeful that his son will soon transfer to Barcelona.
Romario played for Barcelona from 1993-1995, helping his team win the Spanish Championship in 1993 and 1994, leading the competition with most goals scored in both years.
Having played with teammate and current head coach of Barcelona, Guardiola, Romario hopes to use his personal ties with the Spanish club in order to transfer his son to the reigning best club team in the world.
