Rio de Janeiro: The Brazilian government, after a long and heated debate, has guaranteed the sales of alcoholic beverages during the 2014 football World Cup.
Currently, alcoholic beverages are prohibited in football stadiums across Brazil. However, the Brazilian Ministry of Sports announced Thursday that the nation-wide law will be lifted during the World Cup.
The decision comes as an attempt to appease FIFA and soccer fans, Xinhua reported.
Since 2007, alcoholic beverages have been banned in sporting events across Brazil in an attempt to bring down amount violence that takes place in stadiums.
