Liga is more important than Champions League: Mourinho

Madrid: Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho continues to insist that winning the Spanish Primera Liga title is more important for his side than winning a 10th Champions League.

Mourinho speaking after his side enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 home win against CSKA Moscow to reach the last eight in the Champions League.

"The Liga is the most important title for the self-esteem of the club, even though winning the Champions League is like El Dorado," he was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

Madrid's strikers were on form with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice and Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain adding further goals against the Russian team that never looked like troubling the Spaniards.

The draw for the quarterfinals will be made Friday but Mourinho insists his most important task at hand now is Sunday's Primera Liga game at home to Malaga. Madrid have a 10-point lead at the top of the table and the coach says the domestic title is the most important for his side.

Mourinho was asked about which side he would prefer in the last eight, where they could be drawn to face FC Barcelona.

"We are in the quarterfinals now and that is the most important thing at the moment, we will have to see what will happen," he said.
