London: Injury time goal by Thomas Vermaelen helped Arsenal defeat Newcastle United 2-1in a league round matchup of the English Premier League on Sunday here at the Emirates Stadium. The win saw them cruise past arch rival Tottenham Hotspur to third position.

Newcastle drew the first blood of the match when Ben Arfa put them ahead in the 14th minute. But a minute later the Gunners equalized with Robin Van Persie picking up his 26th goal of the current EPL season.

After that it was Arsenal who dominated and also did go close on many occasions but not still make any inroad.

But deep into injury time Vermaelen found the winner to hand them a much deserved win.
