Arsenal bow out of the Champions league despite a brave show

London: Arsenal displayed a great comeback to win 3-0 against AC Milan at the Emirates Stadium here on Tuesday but could not progress into the quarterfinal round  of the 2012 Champions League they were bowed out of the tournament on a 4-3 aggregate.

The biggest turnaround of the season seemed to be on the cards as Gunners who lost the first leg 4-0 in San Siro pounded forward and goals by Laurent Koscielny, Tomis Rosicky and Robin Van Persie saw them go 3-0 up in the first half of the game

With optimism reaching the ultimate level, Arsenal started the second half on an attacking note but could not make any inroads. Milan who were totally subdued in the first half lifted up their game and were attacking too.

Arsenal continued to push for the fourth goal and when they found the opportunity it was wasted. And it was none other than their star player Van Persie whose killer instincts deserted him and instead of rolling the ball past the nets he hit it straight to Milan’s goalkeeper.
