I-League: Mohun Bagan take on Mumbai FC

Kolkata/ Shillong: McDowells Mohun Bagan looks to increase their lead at the top of table, when they take on an in form Mumbai FC, in the 20th round I League encounter at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday.


Mohun Bagan stays at 34 points from 19 games while Mumbai FC are on 17 points from 19 matches and looking to break away from the relegation zone.

There are major worries for Mohun Bagan as they will be missing the services of captain Jose Barreto and Brasilian midfielder Hudson Lima, while Syed Rahim Nabi also stays doubtful for the match.

Another big worry for the Bagan is that Sunil Chhetri have to sit out as he received double booking in the last match.

While Mumbai FC would miss Noel Wilson and Sampath Kuttymani due to injury and it might impact Mumbai’s performance on the field.

Mumbai FC, Assistant Manager Henry Picardo said “We are high on confidence after a win against Churchill Brothers. We will be looking to do well and win this match.” He also confirmed that all four foreigners are available for the Saturday’s clash.

East Bengal challenge for Lajong


Shillong Lajong FC will look to score full points as they host second placed East Bengal FC, in the 20th round I League clash at the JN Stadium, Shillong on Saturday.

 


A victory is must for both the teams as three points added to their tally would take Shillong Lajong to 27points while the Kolkata outfit will inch closer to league leaders Dempo.

Injury is a cause of concern for visitors as they will be missing the services of Naoba Singh, Nirmal Chettri, Saumik Dey and Baljit Sahni, who are still recuperating from their injuries and also Penn Orji who pocketed second yellow card in their precious match.

“We never take any match lightly and Lajong is a good side. We won our home match with great difficulty (2-0)” said East Bengal Coach Trevor James Morgan.


He further added, “They are strong side John Menyongar has impressed me a lot, and with Rennedy Singh and Sushil Singh joining makes the squad looks stronger and composed.”


On the other hand local side will be missing the service of experienced defender Waidladmi Passah. “It will be an opportunity for youngsters to perform, Passah will be in the team for another three years and we have to groom someone new. This is the best chance for youngsters to show their talent,” said Lajong coach Pradhyum Reddy.

With local support coming in good number a keenly contested battle is surely on the cards.
