Luangmual beat PIFA 2-1

New Delhi: Riding on a brace by Denghming Thanga, Mizoram’s Luangmual defeated Mumbai’s PIFA Colaba, 2-1, in the 2nd Division I League match, at Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi, on Wednesday.


Denghming Thanga struck in 27th and 86th minute while George Udo scored the solitary goal for PIFA in 85th minute.

Luangmual made some scintillating moves within the first 20 minutes, but luck was not in their favour. But they didn’t have to wait much as their consistent attack at PIFA’s goal paid off in the 27th minute. Thanga headed the ball past PIFA custodian through a cross from the left flank to give his side a 1-0 lead.

After the lemon break, PIFA made some inroads in the rival’s territory but the Mizo side kept their lead till 84th minute.

With just five minutes left from the regulation time, George Udo restored the parity for PIFA.

The joy for PIFA was short lived as a minute later Luangmual doubled the lead in 86th minute, when Thanga scored a brace to seal the fate of the match.

With this win Luangmual now have 5 points from 3 matches while PIFA have a single point from 3 outings.

Langsning scrape past Simla Youngs


In an evenly contested match Meghalaya’s Langsning beat Delhi’s Simla Youngs 3-2 in their 2nd Division I-League match, played at the Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi on Wednesday.

Langsning took an early lead in as Victor Shadap scored in the 12th minute. Simla Youngs struggled to get a control of the game and but finally their hardwork paid off in the 31st minute, as the local team was awarded a penalty and Badru made no mistake in scoring the equaliser.

A minute later, Manoj Choudhary extended the lead for Simla Youngs as his spectacular bicycle kick had Langsning custodian standing helpless beneath the bar.

Meghalaya outfit came back minutes before the first half. As Yinka Joel Sunday headed the ball in, through a cross from the left flank.

The start of the second half saw Meghalaya outfit dominating the game and finally winning the encounter 3-2 as Victor Shadap struck again in the 76th minute through a powerful scissor kick from within the 20 yard box.

Langsning now have 7 points from 3 matches while Simla Youngs have 4 points from 3 outings.
