I-League: Mohammedan Sporting defeat Golden Threads

New Delhi: Mohammedan Sporting defeated Kerala’s Golden Threads 2-1, in the 2nd division match played at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi. Alfred K Jaryan scored a brace in 8th and 44th minutes for Mohammedan while Akabougu Chimeizie scored a solitary goal for Golden Threads in 61st minute.

 

In the first half of the match Mohammedan looked far more superior side among the two. They took aggressive stance and gave some tough time for Golden defenders.

Soon, the Kerala side cracked, and conceded an early goal in the 8th minute when Alfred scored the first goal off an header. He doubled the lead for his side again in 44th minute. On a cross by Md. Muktar, Alfred scored most wonderful goal of the tournament till now, to which Golden custodian Jennesh Thomas has no answer.

Changing the sides, Golden looked entirely different team and gave some difficult time for the Mohammeden defence line. They pulled one back in 61st minutes when Akabougu Chimeizie scored on a deflection from Mohammedan’s Adeola Hassan.

Spurred, Golden made numerous attempts and kept Kolkata side on the toes till the final whistle. But the Mohammedan hold on to their lead for their third successive win of the tournament.

Mohammedan sporting now have 9 points from 3 matches while Golden Threads have 3 points from 3 outings.
