Second half surge spurs Vidya Niketan in RFYS football

football icon league 260Pune: Vidya Niketan English Medium School registered a facile 5-1 win over Abhishek Vidyalam in a junior boys qualifying match of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament here on Monday.

A brace of goals by Siddhesh Bhor and Omkar Utekka was the highlight of Vidya Niketan's win.

Vidya Niketan began well with Siddhesh Bhor's second minute strike but thereafter they missed opportunities galore and had to settle for a 1-0 advantage in the first session. In the second session, they were charged up and they overcame their previous mistakes by firing in four goals through Omkar Utekka (36th, 41st), Siddhesh (38th) and Shahuraj Bhosale (39th).

Towards the close, Rohan Bhadange (49th) found the net with a brilliant 20-yarder to reduced the margin for Abhishek Vidyalam.

In the College Boys section, Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCOE), Akurdi downed Dr. DY Patil College of Engineering Management & Research, Akurdi 3-0

Ashish Khadsare (4th), Shubham Nesargi (21st) and Adarsh Wankhede (34th) found the mark for the winners.

In another match in the same section, D.Y Patil College Institute of Engineering, Pimpri earned a walk over from ATSS College of Business Studies And Computer Applications, Chinchwad.

ASM College of Commerce Science and Information Technology (CSIT) later recorded the highest win of the day handing out a 7-1 drubbing to Dr. DY Patil College of Pharmacy.

Shashank Tiwari (23rd & 29th minutes), Vinayak Anmol (39th & 48th) and Aditya Patel (34th & 53rd) were the architects of ASM's win with Brian Rajan (50th) also making it to the scoring sheet.

Lout Ghadge (32nd min) pulled one back for the losers.
