Shkodran Mustafi and Bastian Schweinsteiger scored a goal each to give Germany a 2-0 win over Ukraine in their opening Euro 2016 Group C match on Sunday..
Both team started with a positive approach when Manuel Neuer dived to his left to save an excellent curling shot from Konoplyanka. Germany got the lead when Mustafi's header found net from the set-piece of Toni Kroos.
After conceding the goal, Ukraine players tried their best to level the score. In the 26th minute they were almost close to equalizing the score, but again that attempt from corner was saved by Neuer.
In the 34th minute , Boateng cleared a goal line save when Konoplyanka, Sevilla FC winger, arrived from deep and hit the ball on the target. In the 38th min Ukraine found the net but it was ruled out due to off-side.
In the beginning of the second half, two long distance shots from Kroos and Khedira were saved by Ukraine goalkeeper, which did not allow Germany to extend the lead. Though Ukraine tried hard, it was German defence who remained strong except on one occasion when German keeper had a miscommunication with Mustafi to clear the ball .
Schweinsteiger's last minute goal from a counter attack sealed the fate of the match.
