Jamshedpur: A first half strike from Carlos Hernandez was cancelled out by Pune FC’s Izumi Arata in the second half to hand the big spenders of the season a demoralising draw in the second match of Group D of the Federation Cup here at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Saturday (September 22).
Carlos Hernandez scored for Prayag United in the 14th minute after Vineeth CK – playing in place of Lalkamal Bhowmick -- headed the ball down from a Malswaltluanga corner for Carlos to prod home. But Arata Izumi scored the equaliser after the breather to hold Prayag to a frustrating draw. As a result, United SC and Pune FC bag one point each from two outings.
Hernandez looked more at ease playing in the middle of the park where he usually plays. His place up front was taken by Md Rafique.
United looked threatening from the first whistle. In the 2nd minute of the match, Ranty Martins failed to connect from an inch perfect Carlos floater. Pune were playing well, but lacked flair in the attacking third. The score line remained 1-0 at half time.
Post the breather, Pune improved their display inside the 18-yard box. And in the 62nd minute Arata slotted home from a well taken corner.
